Disabling the BPV valve programmatically using the “Truck Tools” program on your vehicle
The BPV valve consists of an actuator and a BPV valve.
The main function of the BPV valve is to create back pressure in the exhaust system and control the mass flow of exhaust gases.
After the ignition is turned on, the valve position is 100% until the PCI ECU begins controlling the actuator.
The power-off and fail-safe position of the valve is controlled by a spring, moving it to the fully open position (100%). In the event of a malfunction, the BPV valve moves to the fail-safe position.
System Impact:
– Provides heat to the exhaust system, necessary for heating the EAS system;
– Changes the pressure difference across the turbine rotor to control the variable geometry turbocharger;
– Creates back pressure to increase EGR gas flow;
– Creates back pressure to provide engine braking.
