The NOx sensor is used to detect nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases. NOx is the collective name for the nitrogen oxides NO and NO2, which are caused by high pressure and temperature during combustion of the fuel mixture in the engine. Another name for the sensor is the nitrogen oxide sensor or lean mixture sensor.
