The Mercedes-BENZ ELV/ESL emulator is used to simulate the operation of an electronic steering lock. It is used if the electronic steering lock unit is broken (or removed). The Mercedes-BENZ ELV/ESL emulator replaces the original ELV/ESL signal and allows you to turn on the ignition and start the car. For the emulator to work, your original ELV/ESL unit must be unlocked or disassembled.
